Rogan is one of the main characters in my romance-fantasy WIP series Burning Embers (names may still change as the story develops).
In this short standalone, you'll meet him as a child - brought by his uncle Alisteir before the King of Saoirse, the father he has never met. Rogan quickly learns there's no place for him at court. Yet Alisteir has a goal: to secure the king's protection for a boy whose path will be full of trials.
Before you read, here's what you need to know:
In the kingdom of Saoirse live cursed dragons, trapped in human-like bodies. Their curse was placed by a dark, ancient power as punishment for the devastation they once brought upon the kingdom of Eonia, in a blood-stained war.
The blood used for the curse came from a dragon who chose to live among humans - an act considered blasphemy by his own kind. Rogan carries that stained blood in his veins.

The Claimed
They said the Hunt was sacred. That if I was chosen, it meant fate. But fate didn't feel like a mouth on my skin or claws at my back. It felt like blood. Mine. For years, I stayed hidden. Quiet. Unclaimed. I stole seeds from the state fields, grew food in secret, fed my family from soil and silence. I did everything right - stayed beneath their radar, beneath their noses. I didn't make waves. I didn't ask for more. But monsters never forget a scent. And when the Hunt came, I was scented. Tracked. Taken. I stabbed him. I buried the blade in his shoulder and watched him bleed. It didn't matter. Because he still bit me. And the world saw. Now my face is on every screen. The girl who didn't run. The girl who fought back. Some call me a rebel. Some call me a mate. But they all forget one thing. I wasn't made to be claimed. I was made to survive. And if they want to collar me, cage me, crown me - they'll have to reckon with everything I've kept buried beneath the roots. Because I am not the flower. I'm the fire beneath it. An echo of Kings
"How do you mourn the dead, when the world says they never existed?" In the Kingdom of Varkhaz... truth is dictated by the stroke of a brush, and history can be rewritten with a trace of ink. Feria Hagalder spent the first fourteen years of her life confined within a 'golden cage,' and the following four years as a 'ghost' hidden deep within the forest. She is the survivor of her family's massacre. Yet, what is far more terrifying than the edge of a blade is the fact that her family members were erased from every record, as if they had never existed in this world at all. But amidst the silence, Feria hears voices... They are the fragments of distorted memories, visions of things that do not exist, and echoing reminders that her 'identity' might not be the role she is currently playing. As vengeance begins to devour the "little lamb" mask she has forged, Feria must make a choice: remain hidden in the shadows for the rest of her life, or step back into the vortex of lies to reclaim her erased name. In a world where anomalies are an omen of doom... she is willing to become a demon to rewrite the truth with her own blood. 📖 What to Expect ✔ Dark Fantasy & Cosmic Horror ✔ Psychological Dread & Isolation ✔ The Mystery ✔ Ancient Gods & Eldritch Curses ✔ Slow Burn Character Growth ✔ Loss of Humanity ⚠️ Content Warnings ✔ Violence & Gore ✔ Psychological Trauma & Gaslighting ✔ Body Horror ✔ Dark/Mature Themes 📅 Update Schedule ✔ weekly Updates - every Wednesday & Sunday ★ Schedule Notice: Due to health issues, updates will be irregular. Cover by: @wild_and_deadly Character banners by: @Alphagurl24 Incomplete. "Dressed in bronze chainmail armour like a snake's skin, a heavy silver, poison dipped arrow in his hand, a bow on the other, and face blocked off by his helmet, the knight stood his ground on top of the mountain's cliff as the dragon swooped down at him. On and on they went, shooting arrows and fire at each other, until the man was down to his last arrow. The evil, obsidian beast and its radiant blue flames had taken everything from him. And now he would do the same. But as he placed his last arrow on his bow, the dragon came down at him with his sharp, charcoal black talons and slashed at the knight. The beast tore through his armour and body, pushing him back with the powerful beating if his wings. As the young knight tumbled downhill, a strange beauty came running into the clearing at the bottom of the beast's layer. His helmet slipped off his head and revealed a bloody, bruised face. A familiar face. And it was only then, I realized the knight was me, and woke up with gasp." --- Find out what happens in Alex Beck's story, The Blood of the Beast.
