Twenty-six-year-old Dylan Herring is having the worst birthday ever. After a night of heavy drinking, he wakes up in a stranger's car trunk, accidentally kidnaps an elderly woman named Jules, and gets chased through town-all before discovering that his roommates have gifted him the title of Emperor of a distant planet called Artesis 7.
But this joke gift turns out to be very real when Glenn Hope, a purple-skinned alien in a bright yellow raincoat and face apparatus, shows up at Dylan's bedroom window to officially recruit him as the 334th Emperor of Artesis 7.
