December 1943

World War two plagued everyone's mind, especially Matteos. Two years after moving into his first apartment, becoming a best selling author, and finding a routine with his cat, Pot Roast, he receives a letter in the mail. He had avoided the draft so far, his life finally smoothing out after 20 years of trying to find a home. Now, it was getting ripped apart.

Ronans mind was plagued with war in a different way, he dreamed of fighting in the Infantry like his dad did over 25 years before. Raised to shoot, fight, and survive, Ronan was ready for this war despite how his chest ached when he pulled the trigger of a gun.

Matteo:

December 25th, 1943

I sat in my bus seat, holding my picture of my cat, Pot Roast, trying not to cry again. It all felt too real now, 13 weeks of hiding in my apartment and now my Christmas gift was basic training. My chest felt tight now, my leg bouncing up and down.

"Is that who you're fighting for?" A voice asked while sitting down next to me in the worn seat. Hundreds of other men already gone, probably dead, who had worn the upholstery down to patched threads.

"That's who I'm being sacrificed for."

A quiet, romantic and dangerous WW2 spy story about two men who should never have met. In the wake of Operation Barbarossa, the rapid Nazi advance severed Moscow's direct radio link with its agents in the German heartland. By late 1941, the Soviet intelligence apparatus was in disarray. Sergei is sent to the Brandenburg border on a desperate mission: protect a clandestine radio relay station - a mission that throws him into a deadly dance with Andreas, a Gestapo official. Their fates collide in a Communist-led assassination attempt, but the true battle lies in the silence that follows. "Between them now lies an invisible blade, much like the mythic sword Gram that once parted a hero from his valkyrie. On which side of the steel does love lie, and on which, duty?" Notes: Hey everyone! Just a quick note before you dive in. This story was first written in Chinese on ao3 and someone say people may like it here so I am trying to translate this into English. This is a FICTIONAL spy story set during WWII. That means I've taken creative liberties with the plot and characters to tell (hopefully) a gripping tale! To be crystal clear: writing about this period and including organizations like the Gestapo is for narrative drama only. It is NOT a support or endorsement of the Nazis' hateful and abhorrent ideology, which I stand firmly against. Okay, with that important bit said... I hope you enjoy the story! Let me know what you think in the comments!

❝We met beneath a sky of grey, Two kids in boots, untouched by war's cruel way. You swore we'd both return to see the sun, Yet war's shadow loomed, and too soon bootcamp had begun. The nights were cold, yet warmth would always creep, A glance spoke volumes when words were far too deep. When training was fierce and long, Our bond felt like a sweet song. When they sent us far away, divided by the fight, Your voice gave way, like whispers lost to the night. I searched for you when letters were sent astray, But found no trace, no sign to guide my way. The war was won, yet still, I lost you here, A name I'll never find, a memory unclear. Did you survive, or were you left in the cold? A whispered dream, a story left untold. As I stand here again, where the leaves still had dew, Your last words hang in the air-"I'll find you." But time moves on, and what we were is gone, Yet still I wait, as all moves on.❞ -A poem by me This book is based on a poem I wrote for school (lol) Reserved recon soldier Elliot and free-spirited James meet at bootcamp and form an unexpected bond that deepens into love. As war tears them apart-James to the trenches, Elliot behind enemy lines-their letters become lifelines. But when James's letters stop, Elliot is left with fading hope and a vow to find the man he loves, no matter the cost. This book is finished, but I will be editing it in the future to add more details and to once over it and make sure it is good! Please lmk if you find any plot holes and such :) I want to get better at writing This book should be as historically accurate as possible. If not, please contact me and let me know!
