Clara stood in the grand hall, the only mortal among a sea of vampires, all eyes fixed on her. Hadrian's crimson hair gleamed in torchlight as he intoned the rites, his voice heavy with reverence and menace.
Hadrian knelt, slicing his wrists. Blood welled and filled the divine cup, dark and shimmering like liquid fire. "Drink," Hadrian commanded. "Your angelic blood will awaken. Half angel, half demon, a new breed of Angelic Vampires. You will serve me, and through you, Samuel shall rise."
Clara lifted the cup. The moment the blood touched her lips, ice and flame tore through her, unravelling everything human. Whispers, shadows, hunger, each pressed in from every side. She was no longer herself. She was theirs, and through her, Samuel would be restored.
