They say betrayal comes in shades of grey - as if treachery were colourless, drained of feeling. They are wrong. Betrayal is green. The green of emerald rings gifted by lying hands. The green of olive branches offered in peace by mouths that mean war. The green of mint leaves sweetening poison. I have known them all, each shade painting my life in a colour I can never wash out.
