chris and ava have known each other since they were 7. their parents were friends, and they were neighbors. she always used to play with chris and his triplet brothers nick and matt and they have a lot of beautiful memories together. ava's and chris's friendship consisted mostly of teasing each other, making everything a challenge, and annoying the other until they both practically hated each other. but when ava's family moved away halfway through middle school, that rivalry just...stopped.

now, five years later, ava is back in boston-only to find out she's been seated right next to chris in english. he's taller, older, more confident...but still infuriatingly smug. chris acts like nothing's changed, calling her the same annoying nicknames, mocking her handwriting, and somehow making every group project into a competition.

also they are both assigned to tutor each other in different subjects, and maybe, just maybe, they both start to actually like each other...
