Violet has wanted out of Gotham all her life, away from the Falcones and their fruitless war with the Maronis, but everything changed when her family's driver had usurped and took over the entirety of Gotham's underworld at the same time her father was going through the fallout of a corruption scheme revealed with his campaign office. She wanted her first love, Bruce, to leave with her.

Instead, she was to start anew in Metropolis from scratch. Single, starting a new career path as a photojournalist for the crime beat at the Daily Planet - she feels hopeful, but it isn't long before Gotham follows after her.

Timeline: after the events of the Penguin HBO series, late January, and before the events of the new Superman movie.
