Evelyn Brooklyn had suffered from insomnia since childhood, haunted by a deep fear of the dark and even the shadows in her room. This fear kept her awake late into the night, always with the lights on. Her worried parents tried everything, including taking her to therapy. The therapist dismissed it as a mere habit and advised them to help her adjust by gradually turning off the lights at bedtime. But instead of getting better, things only got worse.
