[CURRENT] Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would end up dating Ross Lynch in my life. That's why movies like Starstruck work so well - because they're a fantasy, not a reality. Sure, maybe in my dreams I would date Austin and he'd write a song about me, and then Ally would come along and get mad because she had to write a song about a girl that wasn't her and somehow I'd end up dating Dez (because my brain thinks logically when it comes to dreams), but never did I think I'd actually have a chance with Ross. Maybe it's self-esteem when you consider someone to be a celebrity, or maybe it's the fact that when you grow up watching someone on TV, and on YouTube in music videos and on TikTok in interviews, you get to know them so well because you automatically assume that you'll never get the chance to ask them all the questions that you usually would on a first date. Things like where you had your first kiss, and the first airplane you took, and even the first alcoholic drink you had (and where you first threw up your first alcoholic drink). I knew all this about Ross before he even knew I existed, thinking that it was just useless knowledge in my head. But after Denver, everything happened so fast that I never stopped to think about us actually being together.
It never sunk in until suddenly, I was standing alone in the middle of a park in Glasgow, and I thought to myself,
Oh my god, I've been dating Ross Lynch for 6 months - and now I was about to lose him.

This is an experiment. I was tasked with writing an RPF about Adam Driver. I chose to make myself the other character, since I know myself and how I would react or talk to a famous person such as Mr. Driver. I hope to God he never reads this. This is a story about Adam wanting to understand fanfiction and he meet Joey, a woman who curates fanfiction for an online site, much like AO3. They meet and talk--and try to understand whether RPF or other forms of fanfic are dangerous to celebs. There is a connection between the two characters but no actual sex scenes. Happy ending, though, I doubt it would be that way in real life. Liberties I took: Mr. Driver is single. There is no mention of prior relationships. The name of the non-profit Joey works for does not exist. I have never worked for a non-profit nor curated fanfiction. I made up names and places in Brooklyn Heights. I have never been there. Real life things: I am a poet and have taught poetry. I teach writing now. All the information about my family is true. My birthday is November 19, same as Adam's. Dirt Road
I didn't mean for any of it to happen that way. Not the road, not the nights, not him. At first, it was just somewhere to go when the apartment got too small and Beckham's voice got too loud. A stretch of gravel where the air didn't feel so heavy. Somewhere I could sit in my car, music low, windows down, and remember what it felt like to breathe. That road didn't promise anything-just peace. But that was enough for me. The first time I drove out there after everything with Beckham started falling apart, the sky was this bruised kind of purple, the kind that comes right before the dark settles. The smell of bonfire smoke carried through the trees, and you could already hear the bass from somebody's truck long before you saw the lights. That's what I remember most about those nights-the sound. The laughter. The way it all wrapped around you like the world outside didn't exist. Taylor was always the first face I'd see, blunt in hand, that same easy grin like nothing bad ever lasted long out here. And then there was Colin-always in the mix, never looking for attention, but somehow he had all of it anyway. I didn't think much of him at first. Just another familiar face in the crowd. But the thing about the dirt road is that it keeps you long enough for things to shift. The longer I stayed, the more I started to notice the way he looked at me when he thought I wasn't watching, or how the sound of his laugh stuck in my head even after I drove away. Looking back now, maybe it started right there-somewhere between the smoke, the music, and the way he said my name like it was something worth softening for. But that night, I wasn't looking for meaning. I was just trying to forget. And the dirt road? It never lets you forget. It just teaches you to pretend you're not remembering.
