He stood in front of me, eyes tr embling, as if words were trapped inside his chest.
: "Why now?" I whispered, my voice barely holding together.


He flinched, his fists curling at his side. Then, slowly, he smiled. Not the kind that made me feel safe, not the one I had fallen for years ago - but a broken smile, heavy with pain, carrying the weight of everything left unsaid.

"Because if I stay any longer..." he paused, swallowing hard, his voice barely holding together. His eyes glistened with unshed tears. "...I won't be able to let you go."

And just like that, he turned.



My heart screamed for me to run after him, to hold him, to beg him to stay - but my legs wouldn't move. The sound of the door clicking shut echoed louder than thunder, and in that moment, I knew this wasn't just a goodbye. It was the kind that shatters you, yet leaves you waiting... hoping... for a day when love might return.
