Tahir didn't expect the evening to be anything unusual. He had come only because Tylar, his stepmother, had insisted. She was the kind of woman who liked hosting small gatherings-wine on the table, soft music humming in the background, a mix of friends she thought might get along.

"You'll like her," Tylar said, adjusting the silver bangles on her wrist as she set out glasses. "Her name's Akaria. She and her husband just moved to the city. You and Amario might have a lot to talk about."

Tahir didn't answer. He respected Tylar enough to show up, but he rarely shared her enthusiasm for social introductions. People were unpredictable, and he'd learned long ago not to expect much from them.

When the doorbell rang and Tylar swept it open, Akaria was the first to step inside. She was striking-too polished, too aware of her own beauty. Behind her came Amario, a tall man with easy charm and the kind of smile that seemed genuine. Tylar greeted them both warmly, ushering them in with her usual flair.

"Tahir," she called, "come meet our new neighbors."

Tahir stood, offered a polite nod, and shook Amario's hand. He barely glanced at Akaria, but she noticed him instantly. Her eyes lingered longer than they should have, and her smile held an edge he recognized all too well.

CRINGE WARNING! First book I ever wrote on here!! -- "Sometimes the person who you are willing to take a bullet for is the person behind the gun." I stood peering over the cold lifeless body that lay before my eyes. I had always thought of death the enemy, but right now, I blessed it upon the person who is now at peace. Sometimes you don't need to be the smartest, or the fastest, but you do need to be wisest. They say the blood runs deeper than water, and I believe it, because even though the people that we love can turn on us and begin to hate us, they are only human, meaning that soon they will begin to see how short life really is and how it is not to be wasted. People who seem perfect and they look like they have no floors'; they are the people who are suffering, like I was. But I found my savior in the most uncommon place. He was able to look through my mask, he saw the cracks, and tried to fix the broken girl that hid away deep inside the girl who only wanted to be seen as 'fine'. I slowly began to find comfort and safety in him, and I did the same to him. We were two broken people becoming whole. Someone once said when you pass, if you can count your true friends on one hand you are beyond lucky, and I even though I did not like the person that lay before me, I know that he once had true friends, including me. I'm a 17 year old girl who has suffered more than any other, beginning to believe that 'Hope' was just another word the people throw around. Until I fell in love with a badboy. I felt a hand brush my thigh, pulling me out of my dazed state. I looked at the handsome boy and instantly recognized him; he was that Larken boy. The one Papa said to stay away from. But there was something about him that made me want to stay closer to him. "You're Will's daughter, aren't you?" He asked. I nodded, unable to find my voice. "Ya know, he told me to stay away from you. But." He ran his tongue over his lower lip, moving closer to me. "There's just something about you that makes doing that harder." I swallowed tightly, looking into his blue eyes. They were like a crystal pond, still and perfect. "He told me to do the same." I said, loud enough for him to hear. "Are you going to?" He asked, moving between my legs. "He's my father. I have to." I said, looking away from his mesmerizing eyes. The boy cupped my cheek, making me look into his gaze again. "No, you don't." He murmured. "It's a good thing to rebel once in a while." "What's your name?" I asked. "Emmett Larken." He said, smirking. "And yours, baby doll?" I opened my mouth to reply but Shawn cut in before I had the chance. * * * Eleanor Beal-Stevens always had a passion for the arts: singing, dancing, painting, drawing, and playing instruments. Her family wasn't a conventional one, but she loved them none the less. She was the product of an affair while her parents were still in their performing arts school, and her parents ended up marrying different people, that loved her like their own daughter. Emmett Larken was the bad boy no one liked, except all the girls he was with. A new girl on his arm everyday and his pack of friends around him, he never heard the word 'no' before. Then he met Eleanor, the one girl who he could never have because of her father. Will they be able to overcome their obstacles? All rights reserved Jane Dugan 2014
