Unwanted protection by lisetta888

Everyone knows the Star Sanses: they're the Guardians of the Multiverse, and protect it from Nightmare and his minions, who only want to spread chaos and destruction. They're kind, strong, brave, the good guys! How can you not love them? You can't. They deserve the world. They're perfect and selfless and precious, and must be protected at any (and I do mean ANY) cost. Not that they couldn't protect themselves, of course! It's just, the Multiverse doesn't give them the appreciation and respect they deserve, not really. But Nightmare, Error, Horror, Killer, Dust, Cross... they know how much Dream, Ink and Blue are worth. And they'll keep them safe. Forever. The credit of this story partially belongs to Stargazer_Aldroth, who created a prompt on AO3 and helped me flesh out the story before I started writing. If you're interested, you can check out the comment chain where we discuss ideas for this oneshot and eventual follow-up (for now this story is marked as complete, but I could write other chapters, who knows?) on AO3 from author Stargazer_Nebula "Undertale Writing prompts" (it's the chapter with this same title)

Nightmare was sorting through his desk, throwing out stuff he no longer needed when a twenty year old file, dusty from not being handled awhile catches his attention. The file fills him with nostalgic sadness. This file was from before he found the boys, his old best friend. Unfortunate circumstances separated them, but perhaps... it is time to bring him back.
