The "Shams" Rise is an intense, psychological, and erotic narrative chronicling the complete deconstruction and reconstruction of a young man named Iyed. The story is set in a deeply religious, fantasy matriarchal society where women hold all power and men are subjugated, their masculinity seen as a source of chaotic pride that must be contained.

Iyed, a timid and fearful twenty-one-year-old, is summoned by the powerful and revered mystic, Sheikha Qamar al-Zahra, for a process of "purification."
