The Space Between No and Yes

He came back the way a storm does-uninvited, undeniable, and impossible to ignore.

I should have slammed the door. I should have told him to stay gone.
Instead, I let him in.

We share a secret. One night. One act of violence I can't unsee and he can't undo.
I thought silence would keep me safe.
I was wrong.

Now he's teaching me his rules for survival:
Change your route.
Look at hands, not faces.
Never confuse restraint for safety.

But the most dangerous rule is the one I'm breaking every time he's near-
Don't want him.

He says he's here to protect me from people who want me gone.
Maybe he's telling the truth.
Maybe he's the one I should be running from.

And when I follow him into the dark, I find the wall-dozens of photographs of me, taken over years I can't remember.
He says it's my life.
I'm starting to wonder if it's his.

A forbidden love.
