The apartment still smelled of cardboard and fresh paint. Boxes lay scattered, but her heart was lighter than it had been in years. After endless part-time jobs, sleepless nights, and countless rejections, she had finally been accepted into her dream company. This new place, though plain, was freedom-her new beginning.
She made herself a cup of coffee, humming quietly as the machine gurgled. Wrapping her hands around the warmth, she turned-only for a sharp, stabbing pain to tear through her chest.
The mug slipped, shattering. Her breath caught.
