This short story, "The Hums Of The Dweller", chronicles the ill-fated voyage of Alan Johansen, navigator of the Auckland starship Ocorus, and his encounter with the Walkers of the Abyss in 1925. The Ocorus, en route to Callao, was attacked by the Walkers' vessel, the Alert, after refusing to alter course. The Ocorus crew, though victorious in eliminating the Walkers, suffered heavy casualties, including the captain. Johansen, assuming command, led the survivors to a previously uncharted plateau in the Higher Worlds, where they discovered a colossal obsidian spire-a gateway to the Walkers' influence. There, they inadvertently released the deity that the walkers of the abyss worships; The Dweller(also known as "The Eternal Dweller Of The Abyss"), a cosmic entity of unimaginable power, from its captivity within a colossal, carved gateway. The Dweller's influence caused madness and death among the crew. Johansen, with one surviving crewmember, fled aboard the Alert, ultimately sacrificing his companion to temporarily thwart the Dweller's pursuit. Rescued by the Vigilant, Johansen returned to Sydney, where he testified before the Admiralty. Haunted by his experiences, he retreated to Oslo, where he eventually died, leaving behind a manuscript detailing his harrowing encounter. The narrative serves as a chilling testament to the malevolent influence of the Walkers of the Abyss and the terrifying power of the Dweller, a cosmic horror lurking beyond the veil of reality.
One of the cosmic entities in the Transfinitian Myths Universe (TMU), The brother of The Peeking One(from the short story "The Peeking One At Baguio). He is "The Eternal Dweller", a being of immense power whose mere presence brings darkness and madness.
