After lifetimes of fleeing the Church across Europe, Gwydion and Rei finally find a haven in the sleepy English village of Bannerby. There, in their castle overlooking the village and surrounding moors, the lovers are safe at last. Decades pass; and the castle slowly gains a grisly reputation. Generations of villagers warn their children of two pale monsters haunting the hills, neither wholly man nor spirit. And so, they are left alone with nothing but each other for company... Until a dancing nun appears to steal the apples from their abandoned orchards... Ophelia longs for freedom. The rigid rules of the nunnery, which she joined against her will, are suffocating her. Longing to return home to the city and pursue her dreams, she begins to rebel in hopes of being thrown out of the convent. Sneaking out in the dead of night; to drink, and dance, and explore the moors... But when she steals over a wrought iron fence in search of apples, she is shocked to instead find a beautiful monster, pale as moonlight, watching her from betwixt the trees... Torn between fear and their burgeoning love for Ophelia: Gwydion and Rei must decide... is their affection for her worth drawing the Church's attention once more? . . . 'Such beauty, the likes of which I've not known in this life.' A woman, dancing in the moonlight, her hair like spun gold. In one hand, she holds a crumpled black veil, as though torn of her head in a haste. In the other, an apple, cradled gently in the palm of her hand, like a still-beating heart.'
