But then-she felt it.
A presence.
Her breath hitched. Fingers trembling, she gripped her blanket tighter. Sweat gathered at her brow. Footsteps.
She slowly reached for the hardcover book beside her pillow-her only weapon. Then, with a surge of adrenaline, she turned around-
Only to freeze.
Standing before her was Abhimanyu.
His eyes bloodshot, his hair tousled, lips drawn into something between rage and pain.
"Abhimanyu..." she breathed, the book still suspended in her hand.
He stepped forward, grabbed her arm roughly, and pulled her to him. His breath hit her cheek as he growled, "How dare you?"
"What... what are you talking about?" she whispered, stunned.
He smirked, a cruel edge playing at his lips. His hand moved to her hair, gripping it-not painfully, but possessively.
"You like teasing me, don't you? Knowing what I'm capable of," he said, voice low. "But let me tell you something, sweetheart-after all that happened, not even your shadow is allowed to leave me."
She gaped at him, confused and overwhelmed.
"You're drunk again," she muttered, pushing at his chest. "This is entirely inappropriate. You're my ex-boss. Barging into my bedroom in the middle of the night-"
"Ex-employee?" he echoed, his tone dark. "Paru, after I've tasted your lips, after I've heard your moans-do you really think this is about jobs and boundaries?"
His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper.
"I've made up my mind. You're mine now. I'm not letting you go."
Paru couldn't process the words. She pinched her arm to jolt herself out of what she assumed was a nightmare. But pain flared, and a soft yelp escaped her lips.
This was real.
He was real.
