It's her first summer at Cousins Beach, although she'd heard the romanticized stories her whole life and how her mother, Willow, became friends with an enchanting woman known as Susannah Fisher. After Susannah's tragic death, Willow yearns to be in Cousins Beach once more. This time, she'd bring her eighteen-year-old daughter, Summer, named after Willow's favorite season. They stayed in an AirBNB nearby the Fisher home, their back windows peering into their backyard. Summer stops in her tracks when she notices the sunkissed Elijah Fisher, the youngest of the Fisher boys. She stares out her window in awe, wondering if this summer will be the summer she gets her first boyfriend.

In her teen years, Willow was a debutante with Susannah, which was how their summer-long friendship formed. Willow offered the idea to her daughter as a way to make friends, but Summer feels hesitant.
