MUFFIN: A PET WITHOUT A NAME

In a near-future America, children no longer inherit freedom, they are assigned roles by the Bureau. At nine, Kayla White's fate is sealed when she is delivered into the home of Frank and Mildred Miller, not as a daughter or a worker, but as a submissive, property to be fed from a bowl, bathed in a metal tub, and ordered when to go potty. Even her rest is torment, forced onto a fiberglass pet bed that leaves her skin raw. Stripped of possessions, dignity, and even her name, she is branded with a degrading nickname chosen to remind her of the one part of herself she cannot escape. In this house, Kayla is gone.
