In a world where an engineered virus has ravaged the land, a man named Damian Vance has spent his life running from the shadow of his father - a ruthless commander who taught him that love is weakness and only the strong survive. To stay hidden, he lives under the false name Holt after running away as a teen to join the military. But everything changes when he's given a package to protect. The "package" is no object. She's Aurora - a six-year-old girl full of sass, secrets, and terrifying power. Born with the Vibrance Gene, her violet eyes and rainbow-tinged hair make her both a target and a weapon. While Damian doesn't understand why he cares for her, he knows he can't let her fall into the hands of the prison kingdom of Infernis to be "rehabilitated" he feels a need to protect her despite what he was raised to believe. He decides to help her get to her mom so they can get far away from his father and what he has planned, but that turns out to be much harder than he ever imagined. Aurora's mother, Kaelira, was born in a lab and forged by experiments that gave her strength, strange abilities, and rainbow hair that marks her as different. She may be the key to everything - if she's still alive. As Damian and Aurora fight through hordes of the Red-Eyed Dead, hunted by soldiers and haunted by secrets, they form an unlikely bond that could either save them...or destroy them both. *AI generated images*

Wren Gallagher was among the first to become infected in an effort to save her sister and boyfriend from a destructive virus that turned the world into a wasteland. Rounded up for a government experiment over 4 years later, Wren receives a trial cure to her affliction, but once rehabilitated, she can never leave. With the retention of some of their infected qualities such as heightened senses and strength, the rehabilitated are forced to enlist as government soldiers assigned to units with special instructions to protect and provide test subjects to expert science teams. The goal: perfect the cure and create a viable vaccine for the future. With rising tensions between the rehabilitated and purists within the confines of safe zones and in the military, it's only a matter of time before someone opens the gates.
