This Is How We Survive

There was no substantial game left in the pack grounds. Months could not fix the damage the sicora hive had caused to the ecosystem before they were finally destroyed, and neither could the animals the Kymari released into the wild in an attempt to prevent the extinction of multiple species. That left the pack of malenue hungry. It left Barron hungry. He was not the type to let himself become a burden, nor was he one to sit passively by and wait for death, so when he stumbled over a trail that led into dragonette territory he followed it. It was not worth the trouble he was about to fall into.

Vex remembered what it was to hide from the malenue, she remembered what it was to think of them as ravenous monsters like the sicora. Never did she think that after moving territory she would be forced into close proximity with one, nor was she expecting to forge a mutually begrudged alliance with a mangy old canine in order to survive.
