A girl was bent over the engine, elbows deep in tangled wires and metal, completely at home where Scott clearly wasn't.
Her long, dark brown curls whipped wildly in the hot breeze, catching the light. Sweat glistened on her temple, tracing down her cheek, with one hand, she tugged at her tank top, wiping across her forehead.
This was not the picture he expected when Scott had said "my car broke down."

Dakota winces at the pain but let's him clean up the wound. Hank puts a small thing of ice in a ziplock bag, wrapping the wet cloth around it. Hank holds Dakota's face, cradling it. "Drew would be so pissed." "He wasn't perfect, he would forgive you." Dakota says in a lower tone, "You're doing the best you can." Hank pulls her to his chest. He kisses her forehead, rubbing circles on her back to calm her down. Dakota lifts her head up, their eyes connect. He wipes a tear from her cheek, cradling the side of her face as he applies the ziplock bag of ice to the other side. Dakota's hands slip up around Hank's neck, leaning into him. She looks down at his lips, sniffing. Hank knows what she wants, because he wants it too. She leans her forehead on him, closing her eyes. "Can you stay with me tonight?" She glanced at me and shook her head gently, dismissing me. I clenched my jaw. When I pulled my hand up to inhale another smoke, it finally clicked. I quickly threw it out the window and turned the AC on, rolling our windows up. I felt her stare on the side of my face and gulped, trying my fucking best not to smile. "Why did you do that?" She asked me, her voice low. Almost sounding like she was whispering. I quickly shot her a glance before answering. "You have asthma." Her gaze darkened. It was so quiet I could hear her heart beating rapidly while we stared at each other. I couldn't help but want to reach up and kiss her, and hold her like she deserved. She swallowed her saliva and looked away, a smile starting to form on the corners of her lips. I chuckled, already knowing I couldn't escape her now. I wouldn't be able to.
