Benita spends the summer in Maplewood with her godmother and her godmother's daughter, Marianne and Hannah Lou. There she meets Clark, a messy, carefree freelance musician. At first, she doesn't like him - he's too unbothered, too unpredictable, and nothing like her structured, introverted self. But as she's pulled into her best friend's social circle, she's forced to spend time with him. Slowly, Clark teaches her to loosen up, live in the moment, and find beauty in imperfection. Just as they fall deeply for each other, her gap year comes to an end.
