Passionate journalism student Kaviya Raj has only ever hated one thing in her life: hockey players-especially the kind who coast by on charm and a smile that gets them anything they want.

So when Kaviya has a humiliating run-in with Damian de la Cruz-Maple Crest University's hockey captain and the town's Golden Boy-her hatred turns personal. He's arrogant, rich, and seems like his biggest problem is deciding how to style his hair in the morning.

Or so she thinks.

When Kaviya is assigned to write a make-or-break feature on Damian for her final project, she's less than thrilled. Kaviya can't stand him, and he infuriatingly wants nothing to do with the spotlight.

That is, until they strike a deal that benefits them both.

But as Kaviya digs deeper into his icy world, she realizes Golden Boy isn't who she thought he was, and the story she was meant to write might not be the one that matters anymore.

Now, with her deadline looming and her future on the line, can Kaviya make the ultimate powerplay before it's too late?

I'm running, my dress bunched up in my fists. But I'm not running for my life I'm running for his, and when I see him I stop. There is one bulky man on either side of him, they have their arms linking his, he's kneeling in front of someone with raven black hair. As we get closer, I see his pain in the way he's holding himself, his brown hair is clouding his face. Something catches in my throat as I see him bent forward, almost looking limp. The panic is slowly eating me up on the inside. 'Please lift your head, let me see your eyes' I pray inside my head. He can't be gone. It's almost like he hears my prayers as he looks up, his blue eyes as deep as the ocean depths, knocks the breath out of me as per usual. I close my eyes and thank God for keeping him alive. The right side of his jaw is all purple and red. A cut on the other side of his face, which is oozing with the red liquid. He suddenly looks past the black haired male to look at us, reassurance washing over his features. It's when he sees me that his eyes widen, and the panic grows by the second. He goes from a slump to picking himself upright. He's hurt. Badly. The black haired man spins around as we walk closer in their direction. All 6 of us stop as I catch a glimpse of the face. A deadly grin appears on his wicked face. "Boys, I've been waiting for you" He shouts loud and clear. "And you brought the girl" * Crescent Bay Dawson was once popular but now she lives in the shadow of her twin brother. Tessa "Tess" Navarro learned early that heroes don't come for girls like her. In the city, saving yourself isn't selfish-it's survival. Only the next fight. She doesn't trust. Doesn't flinch. Doesn't break. Not for anyone. Lucian "Luke" Dawson is Lakehurst's star goalie, the backbone of a team built on loyalty and brotherhood. Hockey is more than a sport-it's his escape, his control, his reason to stay grounded. But when Tess storms into his life-all sharp edges, heavy silences, and bruised knuckles-Luke sees the fracture lines she's desperate to hide. She's built for survival. He's built to protect. But she's not some damsel in distress. And he's not the hero she wants. Still, there's something between them. Something electric. Dangerous. Real. But the past doesn't let go easy. Eva Graham is a guarded, no-nonsense social science major who studies human behavior to understand why people leave-and how to make sure she never lets the wrong ones in. She keeps to herself, avoids drama, and especially avoids campus athletes, whom she considers walking red flags. Cole Grayson is a third-year psychology major, a cocky ice hockey star with a grin that disarms and a fanbase full of puck bunnies. While everyone sees him coasting, Cole's under constant pressure-trying to go pro, balancing school, and keeping up a charming front to hide just how much he's cracking underneath. When Cole starts slipping in class, he's assigned a tutor: Eva. Neither is thrilled. She thinks he's a loud, lazy distraction. He calls her "Teach" just to get under her skin-she responds by calling him "Skates," with just the right amount of disdain. What begins as bickering soon turns into banter... then something softer. The nicknames stick, becoming a quiet thread that ties them together as friends-and maybe more. Cole falls first. Hard. Eva, scared of being hurt and shaped by people who've left before, fights it. Still, she agrees to go to one of his games-just once. But seeing him on the ice, in his world, adored yet somehow still alone, shifts everything. Then the bet surfaces. A stupid, careless thing made before he really knew her-and it threatens to destroy everything they've built. Surrounded by puck bunnies stirring drama, teammates with their own loyalties, and a past Eva isn't ready to share, the fragile trust between them begins to crack. Between jealousy, late-night confessions, and moments where one look says everything, Eva and Cole must decide: is love worth risking it all-even if it started with a bet, a nickname, and everything going wrong?
