The Last True Master

Nineteen years after the fall of the Jedi Order, Mace Windu lives in secret on a remote Outer Rim moon with his wife and their newborn son, Corel. Though the galaxy believes Mace died during the rise of the Empire, he survived his duel with Palpatine, but was left permanently scarred, missing a hand, and suffering from lingering injuries.

As Mace reflects on the destruction of the Jedi and his own regrets over failing to stop the Sith, he finds hope in Corel's birth. The infant already shows an unusually strong connection to the Force, instinctively moving nearby objects with telekinesis only days after being born. While this fills Mace with pride, it also confirms his greatest fear: such power could eventually attract the attention of the Empire and its Inquisitors.

Sensing a faint disturbance in the Force that feels like a distant dark-side hunter searching the galaxy, Mace decides his family can no longer remain in one place. Though saddened to abandon the peaceful home they built, he vows to keep Corel safe and raise him according to the ideals of the Jedi. The chapter ends with Mace embracing a new purpose-not to rebuild the past, but to prepare his son to become a beacon of hope in a galaxy consumed by darkness.
