He's given basic and vague information, and is forced to make something of it by himself to find some answers.

Man has a diverse skill set, and can do more than most can, but he can't make sense of his ability to do any of it. He doesn't recall learning the skills. He doesn't recall anything, in fact.

He senses a disconnect between himself and the world he's found himself in, and seems to be thoroughly convinced somebody is watching him, and listening in, to his every word.
