So apparently, the Shadow World has rules.

That's cute.

I'm Ayme Espinoza. Daughter of Poseidon. No angel blood. No heavenly permission slip. No interest in kneeling for a system that wasn't built for me in the first place.

And yet their runes burn brighter on my skin than they do on theirs.

Demons fall faster when I'm in the room. Magic shifts differently around me. Like it knows what I am.

They don't like that.

Selene's my cousin.

She didn't grow up in the demigod world. She grew up somewhere else - in stone castles and whispered spells and a war most people pretend didn't happen. Now she stands in two worlds at once. The one of gods... and the one of wands.

She doesn't have angel blood either.

What runs through her veins is older than their angels. Older than their laws. Quiet. Cold. Powerful in a way that doesn't need to shout.

She's still learning this world.

I'm teaching her how to survive it.

Then a hunt goes wrong. Something ancient surfaces - something that doesn't bow to runes or angelic hierarchy.

And it doesn't react to them.

It reacts to us.

Now the watching has started. The measuring. The quiet attempts to decide what we're worth.

You can build walls.
You can write laws.
You can carve symbols into your skin and call it order.
