Your life could have been worse.

Sure, you had a nasty smoking habit. And sure, you'd been a stumbling drunk from the day you learned to swallow- and sure, you worked a dead-end job that barely covered the rent.

But all those trifles suddenly felt a whole lot smaller when you were looking down at hands that weren't your own. And a grisly circus troupe was looking right back.

This is a Jax x reader I'm sorry for my sins.

The reader is also a cartoon canine 'cuz I said so. Probably more plot than romance because I just got done reading The Shining and Doctor Sleep, so I WILL be annoying about the psychological horror in this.

After Ribbit abstracted, Jax was never truly the same. On the outside, he's still the sarcastic clown who never misses a chance to mock someone else's misery. He laughs, he grins, he pretends like nothing in this circus could ever touch him. But inside? Something shattered. His body didn't abstract... his mind did. Now Jax isn't alone in his own head. Voices have wormed their way in, loud and impossible to ignore. They were full-blown. "ARCHETYPES," crowding his mind. Each one is its own nightmare. An insane, unpredictable, wannabe poet with a head injury who treats every word like a stage cue. A sleazy flirt who can't go five seconds without either tossing out some shameless one-liner, or making fun of everything around him. And one that's unbearably kind. so kind it makes Jax's skin crawl. Because deep down, he knows he doesn't deserve that kind of warmth. They never shut up. They mock him, comfort him, argue with each other and worst of all, sometimes they take control of his body... and BE him. So Jax laughs louder. He smirks harder. He keeps up the mask because it's the only thing holding him together. But the cracks are spreading, the silence never lasts, and sooner or later... something's gonna give. How long can he keep laughing before he breaks for real? And when that happens... will Jax FINALLY see the humanity in everyone and redeem himself, or will he give up and abstract like all the others?
