Growing up enmeshed in palace politics and intrigue, Zayda has no desire to participate in the mate game, an ancient tradition in the Black Star pack where mates hunt down and claim one another. But her uncle, Alpha Zhuor, has other plans for her when he reveals that wolvens from neighboring Dark Forest have been invited to participate in the annual game.

Despite his prowess as a warrior, Daxin is ostracized within Dark Forest because he is the child of an illicit affair. Barred from his pack's traditional mating rituals, he volunteers to participate in Black Star's mating game in hopes of winning a mate and earning the respect of his pack.

There's just one problem: the girl who steals his heart has no intention of giving him hers, and he's running out of time to change her mind.

Author's Note: I started this story because I was dealing with some writer's block on my first book, A Mate Out of Murder. It takes place in the same world but, at this point, does not intersect or contain any crossover spoilers. For now, this work will only be updated occasionally when I'm feeling inspired or I need a break from the first one.
