Years alone-until they tossed a human into his cell. No words. No reason.
The Reserve - that's what they call the facility where captured wolves are kept. Officially, it exists for "research and diplomatic purposes," but everyone knows the truth. It's a prison. Insurance, in case things go bad again.

He walks toward me and I stop crawling, still on my hands and knees. His chains rattle when he comes closer, and just before he reaches me, they pull tight. He can't take another step.

He growls and angrily pulls on them.

The growl should make me crawl backwards, but it doesn't. Instead, I realize he's as trapped as I am.

"You sure you want to take a step closer?" He sounds almost curious now, like he's genuinely interested in what I'll do.

"Just a little more, and there will be nothing that will protect you from me."

I look up at him from the floor, craning my neck back.

He looks merciless, cold. Strong and powerful even in chains.

"Water," I repeat, this time looking up at him and holding his gaze while still on my knees.

He raises his eyebrows, looking down at me, not blinking once."Ordering me now?" He tilts his head slightly, focusing on me.

This is the second book in the series (The Communicator), but it can be read on its own. Please don't expect anything perfect just yet-it's a first draft and still a work in progress :)

BROKEN COURAGE (Lucas & Emilia Book 3) by ArianaClarkAuthor

While tortured and held captive as a prisoner of war, she became my reason to keep breathing. The force that fueled my will to fight. To survive. When I woke after the rescue to discover the life I thought I was coming home to was but a figment of my imagination, hallucinations brought about by pain, desperation, and isolation... it nearly broke me. Fifteen years since I first lost her, at last, we have a second chance. Holding her in my arms, finally feeling the warmth of her skin as she melts under my touch, is like a dream. She and her two little girls are now as essential to my existence as the air I breathe. However, just as things start falling into place, the universe steps in, threatening to take it all away. I used to think that choosing her cost me everything I'd ever loved, but now I see that in choosing her and her children, I have the chance to reclaim all that I lost. They are my salvation. My true path to redemption. Which is why I'll leave no stone unturned, why I will scorch this world to the ground if that's what it takes to save them. And when I do, I will fight to convince her once and for all they are meant to be mine, just as I was destined to be theirs. In the Broken Redemption Series, one man's vow to protect the woman he lost becomes a battle between redemption, forgiveness, and the kind of love that refuses to let go. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is Book 3 of Lucas & Emilia's Broken Redemption arc, the emotional conclusion to their story. Warning: This book contains mature content. (18+) ___________ This is a story where desire and destiny conflate, His fervent heart seeks his destined mate, Because.... "He was bound by obsession, she was bound by fate." __________ He was too absorbed in ogling my exposed breasts, his gaze dark and hungry. I took advantage of his distraction and glanced toward the door. It hung loosely on its hinges, barely attached after his earlier outburst. A cold reminder of his strength, he could easily rip it apart, just like he could rip me apart. If I ran fast enough, maybe, just maybe, I could make it to the front door. I just needed one chance, one opening. With my heart pounding in my throat, I bolted toward the door, adrenaline pumping through my veins like fire. My bare feet slapped against the floor, each step a desperate plea for freedom. But just as I reached the threshold, his arm shot out like a viper, snaking around my waist and yanking me back. I collided with his chest, the impact knocking the breath out of me. His body was a wall of muscle, impenetrable and unyielding. "We have to do something about your running habit, mate." ___________ Please read the trigger warning in the Author's note before continuing.
