Summer Collins was a bright fourth grader, beloved by her teachers and had the seemingly perfect life. She was also the first person in New Solicit to be kidnapped under suspicious circumstances.
Cassie Redwood was a cunning thief, who was the complete opposite of Summer. She was a troublemaker and a wary person, which was especially surprising, considering that she was only eight when she was taken in her sleep.
Half a dozen of other kids were kidnapped from all around the town, and no one, not even the best detectives could link them together or understand what was going on. They couldn't figure out why the kidnappers have targeted these young, defenseless children and what their plan was with them.
Until exactly 365 days after their abduction, every last one of them reappeared, spotted by various bystanders, covered in dirt, dried blood and ash and half conscious.
Except they were all different...

Summer Jacobs knew full well about her town’s tradition. Every year at the end of the summer, a party would be held on school grounds without the knowledge of the parents or the teachers.
