"I'm so mad at you." I whisper, my voice muffled against his white shirt, damp with my tears. "I'm so mad at you."
I feel him sigh, his hand softly, gently stroking my hair as his strong arms wrapped around me, holding me.
The same hold I was fighting against moments ago.
"I know, Soojin. I know." He says, his low, soft voice calming me further. "I just... I couldn't help him. Not after he hurt you like that."
I pull away from his chest, my eyes red and puffy. "But- you could've lost your job! You... your job is to... save people... and.. and..." I say, but my mind is on how Miyeon is going to chew my head off when she finds out he's dead.
She's going to be so angry.
"Hey, hey. Soojin. Look at me." He murmured, hooking two of his fingers under my chin and lifting it gently to meet his gaze. "I couldn't. I couldn't save him. Not after he hurt you like that. And trust me, my job is the least of my worries when it comes to keeping you safe. And you have no idea how willing I am to do it again to someone else who will even try to treat you like that."

Lee Soojin has always been taught - & believed - that your partner is the one to help you through it all, to hold your hand, to help you through the ups & downs, to catch you when you fall.
And when she falls head over heels for Hyunwoo, she lives & breathes that principle.
He's that fantasy she always imagined that was going to be the one, that man that is too good to be true.
However, when he succeeds in wrapping her around his finger, he pulls her into sadness instead. He shoves her & watches her fall instead of catching her.
And when he disappears miraculosly with no trace, he leaves scars deep enough that to get lost in... & Soojin can no longer pick up the pieces.
But someone else can.
