Rebecca's Story - Summary

Rebecca Shaw works in NASA's Robotics Systems Laboratory, designing and testing machines that may one day explore the Moon and Mars. Brilliant with code and mechanics, she thrives in the lab where robots obey her every command. Unlike people, machines don't rush her, don't interrupt her, and don't notice her speech impediment, something she has struggled with since childhood.

Although her colleagues respect her skill, Rebecca often feels like an outsider. Meetings move too fast for her to keep up verbally, and she usually communicates her ideas through notes, diagrams, or demonstrations. Despite this, her passion for robotics drives her-she sees each machine as a stepping stone toward humanity's future among the stars.

Her quiet determination catches the attention of Marcus Hill, a veteran flight director, when a malfunction on the ISS sparks the possibility of needing robotic intervention. Rebecca, nervous but resolute, shows him her rover's adaptive algorithms. For once, her voice-though halting-carries real weight.

Rebecca's journey is about finding her place in NASA, proving that her voice matters even when it doesn't come out smoothly. Through her bond with her machines and growing confidence with her team, she learns that her greatest strength isn't perfect speech-it's the brilliance and persistence she pours into every line of code, every prototype, every dream of exploration.

In the end, Rebecca's story is one of resilience: a woman who doesn't fit the mold of a fast-talking engineer but who helps shape the future of space exploration, one robot at a time.

It is a slow burn, but worth it. ~ After a devastating alien invasion leaves Earth in ruins, humanity struggles to survive in isolated zones, clinging to life behind barriers of failing technology. Lena, a skilled engineer with fierce determination, dedicates her life to maintaining what little remains of this protective technology-especially the light posts that keep the Xyvarians at bay. But when a search for medicine pulls her outside the safe zone, she encounters a certain alien. Towering, muscular, and adorned with sharp, curving horns, this alien is a calculated hunter, though his interest in Lena is anything but logical. Drawn to her, he pursues her in a dangerous game of cat and mouse, one that blurs the line between predator and prey. As Lena fights to evade capture, the tension between them ignites into a charged, forbidden attraction that neither can fully understand. He is unlike any alien she's ever faced-Machiavellian, dangerous, unyielding, yet inexplicably captivated by her. Lena, wary and unwilling to surrender, finds herself both repelled and fascinated by the Xyvarian who watches her with a gaze that burns with something far more primal. As she grapples with confusing desires and the disturbing revelation of a breeding program, Lena is forced to question everything-her survival, her humanity, and her heart. ~ (The artwork featured in my cover photo was sourced from Pinterest. Nobody said Rock Hauling would be easy. Throughout settled space, terraforming is the fuel that drives the interstellar economy. For some worlds, this is easy. For others, lacking resources, or on the periphery, this is an unattainable dream. Through the eyes of workers, astronauts and intellectuals, Sunlight's Edge follows an attempt to revitalize the crumbled terraforming project of the barren, poverty-stricken and resource-poor planet of Tylo. To carry this out, the beggared planetary government has commissioned the crew of the aging, if powerful asteroid-cracker Caroline Rowland to make the three-month journey to a distant asteroid belt and tug a selected asteroid back into orbit for conversion into a space station. This is difficult enough by itself, but located in a strategic demilitarized zone between two rival interstellar hegemons, Tylo and it's project may be the flashpoint for a conflict of apocalyptic proportions, with the Caroline Rowland and her crew as the spark that lights the tinder. This is the debut novella for the world of Starpiercer, a planned series of novels set in the 200-world region of Solace with accompanying illustrations, sketches, maps, technical details and more. Read along to meet alien species, experience real and speculative technologies, and follow a sprawling interconnected narrative over multiple novels and multiple series, with fully realized histories, culture groups, physics, biology, anthropology and thousands of pages of worldbuilding. This story has been fully written, and more sections will be published daily, hourly, or in other chunks.

💫 Story Introduction: They gave us ten days. Ten days to collaborate on a groundbreaking astrobiology project that could change the way humanity sees the universe. Ten days to deliver perfection, under pressure, at NASA, with the world watching. It should've been easy-at least for someone like her. Dr. Iris Vale was everything I wasn't. Sunlight in sneakers. Laughter in a lab coat. The kind of person who hugged too tight and believed in the good in everyone. Head of the astrobiologist department And me? I was Dr. Aroura Caelum. Cold. Calculated. Closed off. A woman carved from caution, shaped by scars. I didn't do warm. I didn't do smiles. And I definitely didn't do love. But in the silence between microscope slides and midnight equations, Iris started to chip away at the walls I'd spent years building. With every unexpected question, every joke I tried not to laugh at, she pulled me closer to the parts of myself I thought were long dead. This wasn't supposed to be a story about healing. Or falling. But somehow... it became both. It does not have any heartbreaks or intense seperation. The story just captures their adorable sweet journey navigating their feelings!!!!!
