Some say he is the lover of Night City's living legend 'V'.
But others say he is the true living legend of Night City.
Some say he is Night City's most reliable mercenary - as long as the money is right, he'll even take down corporations.
But others say he is Night City's most unreliable mercenary, because even after accepting a contract, if he encounters something during the mission that disgusts him, he'll call on the spot to cancel the job - and might even turn around and take out the client instead.
He is a big shot who changed Night City, regarded by many as the fourth legendary hacker after Bartmoss, Alt, and Spider Murphy.
But actually...
Alex Mercer himself thinks quite simply about it.
"This world is too filthy. I just want to burn everything that offends my eyes to ash."
Of course, before that, he must solve one problem.
First, he needs to escape from Arasaka's youth hacker training facility together with Lucy and the other children - but for him, this doesn't seem like much of a challenge?
When encountering enemies, just overclock the brain-machine interface, then cyberware malfunction + synapse burnout kills them instantly. Isn't this how we players always play the hacker build?

However, that changed when a Gig gone wrong led to him joining none other than Maine's crew. After running with the crew for some time, he ends up putting himself in mortal peril to save his crew. Seven years later, in the year 2081, he is reawakened by the Arasaka Corporation in an unfamiliar mechanical body, and learns that everyone he once cared about is gone, including his mainline. With the love of his life taken from him, Michael has lost the one thing he had left to live for, so he vows to get revenge against Arasaka, and to kill Adam Smasher, the Merc who murdered his mainline in cold blood. In his fit of rage, he meddles in affairs he shouldn't have, and inadvertently causes a breach in the Blackwall, leading to a demonic AI cult known as the Tenebrium Collective breaching the new Net, and posing a threat all of humanity.
