GW.21.i | V56: Moon Wards

In the moon-launching 1960's, a shy journalist and wannabe film-maker, Gavrial Anand, is invited to his best friend's wedding in Star Bay, Hawaii; along with Callie Vida, the bridesmaid who appears to have nothing but disdain for him, at first. As Gavri carves out a new name for himself as 'Gabe Radigan', and discovers his 'inner mahu', so too does Mele, a local but well-traveled lab assistant, try to make herself a bigger part of the Astor Foundation, which she's naively looked up to her entire life. Meanwhile, Gavrial has been tasked with making a documentary about its founder, Heinz Astor, a corporate retiree around whom the very world once seemed to revolve. What starts out as a matrimonial vacation/business trip soon becomes a strange island tour of WWII aftermath, mainland exploitation, family trauma, and severe emotional repression. [Rated 18A]
