If Journey to the West · Volume I (Before the Journey) (17 chapters) sets the stage, Journey to the West · Volume II (During the Journey) (103 chapters) unfolds the full pilgrimage. This is the heart of Journey to the West: a century-old quest packed with adventure, comedy, and timeless wisdom. Across these 103 chapters, we follow Tang Sanzang and his disciples (Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing, and White Dragon Horse) as they journey westward. Along the way, they confront demons, spirits, and countless trials, each challenge both a danger and a lesson.

Due to the sheer length of the second volume, I have divided it into five parts for easier reading: Part I: Chapters 1-16; Part II: Chapters 17-41; Part III: Chapters 42-66; Part IV: Chapters 67-86; and Part V: Chapters 87-103.

This book presents Part I (Chapters 1-16), narrating the formation of the pilgrimage team and the recruitment of Tang Sanzang's disciples Sun Wukong, White Dragon Horse, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing.
