Casey Johnson, known as CJ, is living with severe congestive heart failure (CHF) and has chosen to keep this condition a secret from family and friends to protect them from distress. CJ's prognosis is poor, and past family experiences with CHF have influenced the decision to stop aggressive treatments. Despite being outgoing, CJ struggles with worsening health, strained friendships, and faltering romantic relationships during senior year. CJ writes letters that her loved ones receives after she passes, and she hopes the contents make them happy rather than sad and pitying.
