Fawnpaw, a young cat training to be a medicine cat, is guided by her duty to heal while her closest friend, Thornkit, dreams of earning his warrior name. But ShadowClan's leader, Bloodstar, has risen without StarClan's blessing and now seeks the Moonstone for a darker purpose. If the stone can grant nine lives, who is to say it cannot grant more? With the forest's balance at risk, Fawnpaw may soon find that healing herbs cannot mend every wound.
