There are hundreds of stories the people of Thedas could share about the Grey Wardens, Their founding, and putting an end to the first blight after it lasted for a century. The final battle of Garahel over the Freemarches, atop his feathered mount. The Hero of Ferelden, who against all odds ended the fifth blight with the least Wardens in history. Or even Rook, who ended a double blight, and three gods. But this story isn't about any of them. The Warden's here are known only to each other, and those they gave their lives to defend.

What can eight Grey Wardens, most of whom are new recruits, do against a Blight? Save the world if they have to, or go down trying. During such times they must name a new King, or two, and stop a civil war from tearing Ferelden apart. Easy, right? If you're in the habit of creating miracles. Which they must do now, before Ferelden falls to the darkness. Let's see what a mage, templar, Princess, nobleman, thief, Dalish elf and casteless dwarf can do against a tainted old god. But along the way they may discover secrets about their bloodlines that they would never have dreamed of, and what happens when those secrets mean things go spiralling out of control?
