(TW: unaliving thoughts and memories at the beginning. It gets better over time, don't worry! Trauma is difficult to overcome...) You didn't want a second chance. You didn't want to survive. Which was very frustrating until you met a strange entity in the 'in between' that causes you to be reincarnated as Nightmare. Errr... sorta. What happens is that your soul merges with Passive!Nightmare and Corrupted!Nightmare, so they are now your buddies for life but in ghost form.
