Fae never expected to face a ghost from her past. Not now-sixteen years later. Not here-thirteen thousand kilometres away. And certainly not him-the boy who slipped through her fingers, leaving her heart in pieces. ~~~~~~~ As a teenager in Jakarta, far from her birthplace because of her parents' business, Fae found comfort in her school's vibrant mix of cultures. It was there, in an after-school course, that she met Joshua-a British boy who, like her, had been uprooted and dropped into this foreign world. What began as a chance encounter soon tugged at her heartstrings. She fell, hard. But he was never on the same page. Now, years later in Ottawa, she has built a quiet, steady life. Far from the girl she once was, far from the shadows of her past. Until destiny, with cruel precision, throws Josh back into her orbit. The question is: can she go on with her life and keep the door on that dismal past sealed, or will the shadows slip through the cracks, pulling her back into the blackness she thought she'd left behind? I had to admit, he was cute. His eyes sparkled nervously and his lips were a lovely shade of natural red. He had his arms crossed over his chest, a gesture that could possibly get him knocked out in this place. He looked as though he could fake a tough guy but at heart he was gentle. I had good instincts and they were screaming to steer clear of this guy. Why? Because he would break my heart. Why is that all the best relationships happen at the strangest of times?
