Hester wasn't the typical heroine, ready to save the world for glory or destiny. She was just... Hester. Stubborn, sarcastic, a little desperate, with a world-Gavik-that was rotting under a fucking magical disease that showed no mercy.
The solution? Thera. A place where magic and technology constantly collided, and where time travelers risked getting arrested if they caused trouble. Not exactly a place to feel at home. And then there was Athor, the only ally she had: arrogant, incredibly charming, morally gray... capable of saving her life as easily as letting her rot without a second thought.
She walked beside him through portals that seemed ready to swallow them whole, deadly creatures, and dimensions that screamed, "You don't belong here." She tried to breathe, tried not to think too much about what could go wrong... but it was impossible. Trust Athor? Maybe. Fall in love? Probably not. Yet, amid the fights and challenges, there was something she couldn't ignore.
Love... didn't fix shit. Not here. Not for Gavik. Here, it could be the last crack that made everything collapse. Salvation wouldn't come from who she thought it would, and fate had a cruel sense of humor that almost made her laugh... if it weren't for the fear pressing on her chest so tightly it nearly made her stop breathing.

"How many romance books do you read?" Devin asks me. I shrug. "I like them," I say. I keep browsing, running my fingers along the spines. "So, you like romance then?" he asks me. I nod. I stop at the door taking another huge breath and walk in. I go up to the desk and wait for the lady to get off the phone which standing here is making me even more nervous She puts the phone down and finally speaks "Yes, how may I help you." how cliché "I have an appointment here for result, I am Keegan Summers." I say she looks up with wide eyes at me, her face pales and she gulps. What?! "The doctor will see you right away!" she says urgently, and buzzes the door open. "go straight down the hall into the last door on the left." she says smiling. "Thank you." I say shaky and even more scared than before. Oh no, even the front counter lady knows about me which makes it even worse. I walk down the hall slowly savoring the moment. I get to the door and breathe. Then I walk in. I see my doctor sitting at her desk doing some paperwork and I shut the door and she looks up and frowns at me. "Keegan sit down please." she says lowly not even looking me in the face. "No I won't, I came all the way here just to find out. I have been sick way to long and I just wannt to know. Just say it, spit it out right now because I am panicking. What's wrong with me?" I say demandingly. "Keegan, it's as simple as this, your dying." I freeze. Everything freezes. Did she just say what I think she said?
