Poetical Raindrops Series
Benjamin stood in the rain because there was nowhere else to go.
Thunder cracked overhead, close enough to rattle his ribs. Streetlights blurred into long streaks of gold, and the road beneath his feet turned to glass. His clothes clung to him, heavy and cold, but he didn't move. He barely breathed.
Cars rushed past, spraying water, strangers sealed safely inside their own lives. No one looked at him twice - to them, he was just another man caught in a storm. They couldn't see the way his hands trembled, or the truth pressing painfully against his chest. The rain whispered his name.
Not loudly. Not all at once. Just enough that he couldn't ignore it. It wrapped around him, soaked into him, as if it had been waiting--for this moment, for him. Benjamin took a step forward, his heart pounding. He didn't know where the road would lead. He didn't know what he was about to lose. But he knew one thing with absolute certainty: By the end of the night, nothing in his life would ever be the same.

He looks out beyond the edge and I can't seem to pull my eyes away from him. He smiles and speaks, but I can't hear anything he says. Even so, the buzzing seems to grow quieter and quieter till it's just silence all around myself and him. I watch his mouth move as inaudible words flow from it into the air, and his hands open as he gestures while he speaks. I watch as he looks turns to look at me to be sure I am following along, and then his eyes just wait on me and his mouth stops moving. I watch him mouth my name and tilt his head to read me. There's nothing I can tell him. Nothing that wont change things, but if I keep this going things will change.
