Princess Ayla has lived her entire life behind palace walls, protected by protocol and propriety. But when assassins strike at a royal banquet, her beloved guard dies in her arms, and everything changes.

The tournament to choose her new protector draws hundreds of Navarre's finest warriors. None expect the masked victor to be Xaden Riorson-son of a executed traitor, marked as dangerous, and everything a princess should fear.

He kneels before her with blood on his mouth and shadows at his back. He swears an oath with rebellion in his voice. And when their eyes meet, Ayla realizes the greatest threat isn't the enemies hunting her.

It's the way she can't look away from the most dangerous man in the kingdom.

"Gennifer Ortega," she felt a wave of electricity rush through her, her screams echoing off of the white walls. She tugged on the chains that held her to the table. "What is your name?" "Gennifer Ortega," her screams bounced from wall to wall and her tugging on the chains made the cold rusty chains dig into her skin. Her throat hurt from the screaming and crying. Her hair clung the her sweaty forehead and tear streaked cheeks. Her eyes were red and puffy and her body lathered in bruises. "What is your name?" "Please, you have the wrong person," she begged him her body thrashing, trying to get free and away from the tazer stick. She felt it press against her stomach and the electricity coursing through her veins. This time it went on longer than usual and she felt like she was going to explode from the pain. She was sure her screams could be heard through the walls but yet again no one has come for her. "What is your name?" "Please I can't anymore," she begged her voice thick from the crying and screaming. Her whole body hurt and she could feel the blood oozing from the wounds that the chains had caused. She felt the stick press into her side and burn into her skin. She didn't have enough strength to scream so al she did was cry choking out sobs that hurt more than they should've.

Adelaide Ansel, a fierce and enigmatic first-year cadet, returns to Basgiath War College bearing a name long erased from history - a bloodline cursed and forgotten for over four centuries. She carries not just scars and mismatched eyes that unsettle those around her, but an arsenal of poisons, enchanted armour, and a deadly book of knowledge she authored in secret. The myth surrounding her scar is grand and fantastical, yet the truth is brutal and mundane - she was attacked without prophecy or cause, and it hardened her rather than broke her. Adelaide is calculated, rebellious, and unapologetically herself, refusing to hide her lavender hair or deny the ancient blood that flows through her. With wit and venom-laced charm, Adelaide verbally spars with Xaden and insinuates they may be related - a half-truth or an outright lie that shakes him to his core. She crosses the Parapet with deadly grace, claiming her place not just as a survivor, but as a reckoning for the history that tried to bury her. She quickly forms alliances with fellow cadets Ridoc and Sawyer, proving herself both humorous and dangerous - equally capable of loyalty and chaos. She is assigned to the Fourth Wing and settles into formation, Adelaide disrupts expectations and asserts her presence like a storm in human form - unrelenting, unpredictable, and unforgettable. Disclaimer || I used AI to create the Cover Image for this story as I can't draw to safe my life. Credits go to Rebecca Yarros as Fourth Wing belongs to her. I only own Adelaide Ansel Character and her Bonded. I'll try to keep the story inline with Violet's Timeline so that some events stay canon.
