A year after the death of the Japanese salaryman Satoru Mikami in 2009, another man's story came to an end. In 2010, Aleksandr Villin, a former KGB operative who had turned to a life of crime as the feared boogeyman of a Russian crime syndicate, decided to leave it all behind in pursuit of a peaceful life.

But fate was merciless. He was gunned down that very year, leading to his reincarnation in the Cardinal World-one hundred years after the Great Tenma War.

By then, Rimuru Tempest, the strongest being in existence, had already spent over a century in the Cardinal World.
