"Baxter, you're taking care of the dragon." "What next? Babysitting a hydra?" In Eigis, a nation of the highest technology without magic, the Blackstream Office does things the old way: grit, instinct, and minimal upgrades. Noan Morrison is the veteran who operates alone like a distant father. Adam Baxter is the apprentice who never learned to shut up with the freedom to prove it. Tori is the dragon taken in and now, she's learning to be a person in an alien city that sees her as a prize. Their cases range from crime syndicates to rogue cyborgs to the monsters that emerge when the human mind breaks. Sometimes, melodrama and heartbreak. "And just like that... This is more than babysitting," Adam pinched the bridge of his nose with a sigh. --- Content Warning: Contains violence, body horror, trafficking, and implied assault. Reader discretion advised. It's been almost a hundred years since Earth's civilizations fell, leaving only ruins and memories. Long before the collapse, they began taking humans, but now, everyone knows who they are and they fear them. The few who manage to return from their captivity tell stories of how these creatures treat humans like animals or children, tending to them like pets or slaves. Most survivors live in hidden cities, avoiding the ancient ruined cities at all costs. But not Jace and his crew. As a group of Stray Humans, they've made the decaying cities their home, roaming the forgotten streets, never staying in one place for long, and bringing all their skills to the table. They are a family, working together to make sure those things, Aliens, never take another human as long as they are near. When the aliens of A.C.R. (Animal Care and Rescue) find a new group of humans wandering the ruins of a large city, they think it will be an easy capture. But they soon learn that these particular humans have more willpower than most. They dodge every trap, disappear around every bend, and even manage to take some of the already captured humans with them. The aliens pity these "little creatures"-they just don't want to leave their home, but Earth is falling apart at the seams, and they are determined to take the stubborn little humans to the safety of one of the mother planets. No matter the cost.
