The world is a dangerous place. Especially for someone who has lived their whole life under the ground.

Brazenheart has never seen the Outside, a forbidden place where only the hunters get to explore, spoken of in whispers traded among the apprentices and the nursery stories the Caretakers tell every young dragonet. After all, the tunnels are safe and cozy. He has everything he could ever want; and honestly? He can see himself living out the next hundred years tucked away in this stone fortress.

But his whole life, and that carefully planned, secure future, is brought to ruins along with the entirety of Garnet Wing, the tunnels, and his parents' lives in one gritty, bloody night.

The fortress of safety is destroyed. The Wing is scattered. And Brazenheart is finally free in the wild Outside, with no home, no idea where his dragons are, and memories of that night fresh.

Meeting a charismatic, secretive loner called Jinx -with whom he must fight feelings of magnetic attraction and lust for- and reuniting with his brother, Brazenheart sets out with revenge in his heart.

Perhaps it is time for the winged to create their own law.
