Many years after achieving the title of Water Hashira, 20-year-old Giyu Tomioka still finds it difficult to get along with his fellow Hashira. Nonetheless, he persists, seeing no harm in considering them friends in spite of that. 

Sanemi Shinazugawa, the Wind Hashira, sees him exclusively as a thorn in his side. He most certainly does not agree with the idea that they are friends. The closest person he has to a friend in the Corps is Obanai. Only problem is getting that information through Giyu's thick skull.

Modern AU. The Hashira and Kamaboko squad are all students (apart from Gyomei who is their friend outside of School.) Giyuu doesn't do well at school, he has long term hypothermia from when he got lost on a mountain in a snowstorm as a kid and left unconscious for weeks, almost freezing to death. Sanemi Shinazugawa, a student athlete, who loves basketball and studying. He was somewhat liked but had some issues with keeping people close by in the past due to his anger issues, he was quick to lash out but he didn't mean it, so he often kept to himself to avoid this. He did like to do something, he noticed it helped his anger. That was riding his bike around town while listening to music. It calmed him. He was in his own world. Giyuu Tomioka, a normal student. A person you would see as a background character. He kept his head down and wore the nerd mask at school. He wanted to fade into the background and be invisible. But in reality he was outgoing. Out of school he was himself, the punk emo rock kid. He hid himself becuase in the past he was made fun of for being "too much" so he locked that part up at school so no one could see it. He did have a few hobbies but he loved to ride his skateboard while listening to music. One day, these two boys opposites of the same coin magiacally ran into each other. No. Literally ran into each other. Coming to the same corner they crashed into each other. They instantly started to yell at each other. Sanemi was less banged up from the crash, he had some scrapes but no blood. Giyuu on the other hand was only bleeding. From his nose and both his knees. Sanemi realized Giyuu was in pain and through Giyuu's complaints he helped him to a conveince store Giyuu pounted and avoided Sanemi's line of sight as Sanemi healed his wounds, Giyuu regonized Sanemi and he didn't want Sanemi to realize who he was, but it was too late, Sanemi had ran into Giyuu that same day and remembered him. From that moment on Sanemi and Giyuu formed a secret friendship, something only between the two of them. Then something else came along.

In this au, Giyuu is not the water hashira, but Sabito is. They both passed final selection but due to Giyuu's eye injury he is blind in his left eye and keeps a bandage around it. He has a mellowed out personality but smiles and expresses his emotions. Sanemi Shinazugawa is preforming the hashira training and since all ranks have to participate he met Giyuu and was instantly wooed by Giyuu's strength, he saw Giyuu as an angle to the point Giyuu kept leaving an imprint on his mind. He was an angle with an angle's smile. :)
