In a post-apocalyptic world, Magda has been the victim of the plague of Shadows since a very young age. This plague creates cloud-like bruises that slowly grow, and can eventually turn the victim into a monster. She currently lives at the Temple of Living Water where she undergoes daily treatment. Most of the people that get this plague never get cured, but find ways to manage and delay the symptoms. Only a very rare few get fully cured.
Magda soon discovers that she has a more advanced form of the plague. Everyday she's closer to becoming a monster than ever. As Magda finishes high school and contemplates a future where she's almost certain to become something she's afraid of, she has to wonder, what kind of future does she really have when she might have to die so that everyone else can live?
